Winter in the Driftless really does feel like a deep breath. ❄️ If you’ve never explored the Driftless Region, let this be your sign. Most people think winter is something to survive, but standing on 30 inches of ice watching my kids run around chasing flags with me, I just felt really grateful. Not for the polished version of life — but for the cold, windburned, boots-soaked, lake-trout-in-hand kind where your fingers are numb and your heart is full. A tiny house on a frozen lake. Mom and dad drilling holes so our babies can learn patience. A horizon so wide it makes your everyday stress feel small. It’s simple, but it’s a gift. And I don’t take for granted that we get to live this way. Winter has a way of stripping things back to what actually matters — family, fresh air, gratitude, being present. And if you’re in a season that feels frozen right now, hold onto hope. God is still working, even when you can’t see it yet.
