It’s a new year and I don’t know about you, but in 2020, I definitely want to spend more time on the water. This past summer and fall, we were still adjusting to life with a newborn. We still spent time on our favorite lakes, but not nearly as much time as I would’ve liked to. This year will be different — I think. I hope!
And there’s no better way to get excited for the open water season than going to the Progress Insurance Minneapolis Boat Show. Whether you’re in the market for a boat, you’re simply researching, or just love everything lake life — you’ll definitely want to spend a day or two at the Minneapolis Boat Show. It’s happening Thursday, Jan. 23 – Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Looking back at last year’s Boat Show, I remember seeing some of the newest pontoons, fishing boats, cruisers, kayaks, and other water crafts firsthand. It was so convenient to be able to hop from one boat to another, talk to the boat experts, and check out some of the exhibits.
Here are a few things I recommend checking out at the 2020 Minneapolis Boat Show:
“Land of 10,000 Lakes” Lifestyle Experience:
Relax or socialize at this year’s Minnesota-inspired oasis. The Land of 10,000 Lakes is complete with cocktails, fun food options like the Tot Hot Dish and Three-Cheese Mac & Beef, and other boat-related fun.
A really big yacht:
MarineMax is displaying a really big yacht — 39’6″ to be exact. The Sea Ray SLX400 has an MSRP of $680k. If you can afford that, be sure to invite me along for a cruise someday :). But if it’s not in your budget, at least you can experience it at the Boat Show. That’s what I’ll be doing!
The Antique & Classic Boat Display:
An all-time favorite, the Antique and Classic Boat Society is featuring vintage wooden, fiberglass and aluminum boats at the Boat Show. You won’t want to miss the restored historic 1921 race boat called Dixie Baby.
Twin Cities Beach Bash:
This one is kid-friendly. Families are invited to build sandcastles with kinetic sand and watch past champions of the sand sculpture contest show off their skills. Kids can also build a boat out of milk cartons and do a scavenger hunt during the show.
2020 Minneapolis Innovation Awards:
Be sure to check out the winners of the Innovation Awards. These are the companies who come out with the best new products in the boating industry. It’s always fun to see what new ideas come to the show every year.
