Inspiration is powerful. It drives us to do things we may not normally do. One of the big reasons I launched Girl of 10,000 Lakes is to inspire millennial women to step outside her comfort zone and adventure more. My hope is that the wilderness becomes her comfort zone. It’s all about the can-do attitude. Be honest with yourself about your hopes and fears, create a judgement-free space, have patience, have a sense of wonder about immersing yourself in nature, and as cheesy as it is – believe in yourself!

For an extra dose of inspiration, here are ten of my favorite quotes that inspire and motivate me to adventure more.

“Jobs fill your pocket. Adventures fill your soul.” -Jaime Lyn Beatty

“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” -Louisa May Alcott

“I want to do it because I want to do it.” -Amelia Earhart

“There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.” -Sir Ranulph Fiennes

“We should all start to live before we get too old.”  -Marilyn Monroe

“A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth’s eye looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.” -Henry David Thoreau

“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” -Susan Sontag

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.” -Zig Ziglar

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” -Anthony Bourdain

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” -Edward Abbey

This last one isn’t really a quote, but a saying that I’ve always liked…

  1. Loved the quotes and pictures – “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” -Louisa May Alcott really resonated with me.

  2. I love the quotes, but I have to disagree with “I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” -Louisa May Alcott. After spending a week in the BWCA during the 4th of July blowdown, I am afraid of storms. Ok, I’m taking it a little literal. Good choices of quotes!
